Carey inspires comeback as Padraig Pearses return to Roscommon SFC semis

Padraig Pearses came from seven points behind to defeat Boyle on a 1-23 to 1-18 scoreline after extra time in Enfield and secure their place in the last four of the Roscommon senior football championship.
Frank Canning’s side has trailed by 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time and the scores of Cian McKeon, Ronan Daly and Donie Smith would put Boyle six to the good by the midway stage of the second-half.
David Flanagan’s point widened the margin to seven with 10 minutes remaining and it was back-to-back two-pointers from marksman Paul Carey that ignited Pearses as the defending champions battled back in the closing stages.
Another Carey score from beyond the arc would be backed up by Jack Tumulty's equaliser at the death, leaving the scoreboard to read 1-14 apiece when the final whistle sounded.
The holders dominated in extra time, with Conor Ryan and Hubert Darcy helping to surge them six in front with two-pointers and Carey’s superb free-taking would put a seal on the five-point victory in the end.
The later game in the Roscommon SFC this afternoon saw 21-time champions Clann nan Gael defeat Elphin by 0-16 to 1-8 in Strokestown to advance to the competition's semi-finals.
