Darragh Ó Sé Feels Jack O'Connor Has Made One Major Error During His Time With Kerry

Having cruised through much of 2025, there is no doubt that last weekend's defeat against Meath would have set alarm bells ringing in Kerry.

Jack O'Connor's men were thoroughly outplayed in Tullamore, coming up well short against a side that most would have considered as being far less talented. While the Munster champions were missing some key contributors for the game, the same can be said of their opponents.

Indeed, some feel that this match exposed what has become a major issue for Kerry in recent seasons.

Ó Sé Feels Jack O'Connor Has Made One Major Error With Kerry

Jack O'Connor has been in charge of Kerry since 2022, leading the county to an All-Ireland title during his first season back in charge. However, they have largely failed to live up to expectations since then.

Some feel that their most recent outing has exposed one of his biggest errors during his third spell in charge.

Writing in the Irish Times, Darrah Ó Sé said that O'Connor's failure to blood new players is something that is now catching up to the team.

That’s the biggest criticism Kerry people have of Jack O’Connor. He hasn’t future-proofed the squad during his time in charge. The Kerry team now is very similar to what it was when he took over at the end of 2021...

Jack doesn’t like losing and he knows well that a chunk of Kerry supporters will think the sky is falling in if they get relegated from Division One.

But every one of the other All-Ireland contenders has spent a bit of time in Division Two. They blooded players along the way and now they’re in much better shape.

Kerry's panel is certainly not as deep as some of their rivals, with the likes of Armagh, Dublin, and Galway have more strength in depth as things currently stand.

That is something they will need to address moving forward, although Jack O'Connor will be hoping that it does not come back to bite them before the end of the 2025 campaign.
