Holders Padraig Pearses get Roscommon SFC campaign back on track

Padraig Pearses bounced back from their opening round Roscommon senior football championship loss by defeating Clann na nGael on a 1-17 to 1-14 scoreline last night.
The defending champions, who were stunned by St Faithleach’s a fortnight ago, had a few regulars back for this one and edged a 0-9 to 1-5 lead by the end of the first-half in Woodmount.
Ciaran Lennon netted a 10th minute penalty for Clann na nGael, but Pearses got scores from Jack Tumulty (2) and Declan Kenny in the second quarter which saw them up by one at the interval and they’d extend their advantage after the change of ends prior to Tumulty lashing in their goal in the 38th minute.
Clann na nGael responded well with points from sub David McManus, Lennon (2 frees) and Emmet Kenny to level things up ahead of Kenny shooting them in front in the 49th minute.
However, the closing stages would belong to the holders as Paul Carey, Adam McGreal and Tumulty sailed over the scores which proved the difference between the sides in the end.
Elsewhere in the Fahey Cup race on Friday, last year’s beaten finalists Roscommon Gaels were 1-15 to 0-16 winners over Oran while 2023 champions St Brigid’s were dominant in a 3-23 to 0-15 win against Western Gaels.
