Jackie Tyrrell Rattled Liam Sheedy With Cheeky Tipperary Quip After Kilkenny Win

Tipperary dealt Kilkenny some late heartbreak in surging late to secure a place in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final for the first time since 2019.

It was a tight game going into the dying minutes and Tipp looked to be up against it when youngster Darragh McCarthy was dealt his second red card of the Championship.

But The Premier County's levels went up and Oisín O'Donoghue got the decisive score with a goal for the ages in Croke Park.

Tipp now have a first ever All-Ireland final showdown against Cork to look forward to after The Rebels obliterated Dublin on Saturday in a seven-goal win.

Cork will be favourites going into that clash on July 20 having already beaten Tipp in the Allianz League final and in the Munster Championship round-robin.

Jackie Tyrrell's cheeky Tipperary quip

Tipp, meanwhile, have taken an unusual route to that final, coming through Munster in third before beating Galway and now Kilkenny to get there.

The county has a habit of coming from left-field to win the coveted prize, having often had lengthy gaps between All-Ireland title wins.

Kilkenny legend Jackie Tyrrell was quick to mention this in his appraisal of their chances going into the final with Cork later this month.

At the start of the year nobody thought Tipp would be here but they are there on merit," Tyrrell said on The Sunday Game.

"Liam (Sheedy) is right; if they can somehow make that middle third a warzone and get parity there (they have a chance).

"And defensively with Ronan Maher at three he will be able to go toe to toe with some of those lethal forwards inside.

"Tipp have the ability of just coming out from nowhere and reaching an All-Ireland final and then hibernating for 20 years!"

Tyrrell's quip drew an instant 'stop it!' from Sheedy, undoubtedly his intention as he made the remark.

For Kilkenny, their wait for the Liam MacCarthy Cup will go beyond a decade having failed to reach the final despite their Leinster dominance.

The Cats are without an All-Ireland title since beating Galway back in 2015 as they look to return to winning ways in the post-Brian Cody era.
