Joe Canning Explains Why Rivals Should Be 'Worried' After Limerick Hammer Cork

The momentum built by Cork during the 2025 season was brought to a screeching halt yesterday, with Limerick serving a timely reminder of their quality during the Munster Senior Hurling Championship meeting between two sides at the Gaelic Grounds.
This clash was built as a dress rehearsal for this year's provincial final, with GAA fans interested to see if Cork could follow up their two victories over the Treaty County in 2024 with another strong display this time around. However, John Kiely's side were dominant right from the very first whistle, ultimately running out as comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-26 to 1-16.

The fixture was all but decided by the interval, with a blistering start from Limerick ensuring that they led by 15 points at halftime.
While Cork will be hoping that this performance was no more than a blip on their behalf, some will be concerned as to what Limerick's display could mean for their opponents over the remainder of the championship.

Joe Canning fires warning to Limerick rivals after Cork winThe air of invincibility that surrounded this Limerick team was somewhat damaged in 2024, with their two championship losses to Cork providing hope that their longstanding dominance in the All-Ireland series was finally coming to an end.
However, the manner in which they disposed of that same opponent yesterday could well bring to an end to any such notions.
Speaking on The Sunday Game, former Galway star Joe Canning said that other teams around the country will be hugely 'worried' on the back of this display from the Munster champions.

It will give Limerick huge belief...
That little bit of, I wouldn't say it was gone, but that fear factor of playing Limerick is definitely back.
Counties that are playing Limerick now will be worried that they are back at their peak again. Losing to Cork twice last year gave teams a little bit of hope, but today's performance certainly puts them back ahead of everyone else.
Limerick will be hoping to win an unprecedented seventh consecutive Munster title over the coming weeks, after which their focus will quickly shift towards regaining the Liam MacCarthy cup.
After their performance against Cork, few will be back against them in their bid towards achieving that goal.
