Madden dethrone Clann Éireann to clinch first Armagh SFC final berth in 27 years

Madden Raparees are through to their first Armagh senior football championship final since 1998 after upsetting holders Clann Éireann with a 0-14 to 0-11 victory at the Box-It Athletic Grounds last night.
The scores of Aron McKenna, Niall Grimley and Conor Grimley helped Madden to build up a 0-10 to 0-4 lead by the end of the first half and they were able to withstand the champions’ fight back in the second-half to book their place in the Gerry Fagan Cup decider.
Conor Turbitt led the charge for Clann Éireann after the change of ends as they dwindled their deficit down to two points with 10 minutes left on the clock.
However, Madden’s defence would hold firm in that time and not allow another score, with Conor Grimley’s seventh point of the night proving the insurance as Armagh star Turbitt was denied the net by Jamie Sheridan’s superb save late on.
This evening’s other semi-final in the Orchard County sees 47-time champions Crossmaglen taking on against Cullyhanna with the winners advancing to the county final on August 26th.
