Cork will be without Sean Powter for the 2026 season as the 28-year-old gets set to emigrate to Australia.

The Douglas clubman, who is a qualified doctor, informed management of his decision to move Down Under recently and his absence is set to be a blow to manager John Cleary.

The attacker made his debut with the Rebels in 2016 and helped them to a Munster SFC final appearance four years later before earning himself an All-Star nomination in 2022.

Having had a couple of injury-ravaged seasons, there were limited appearances from Powter in 2025 as he started just two games for the Leesiders throughout the year.

Cleary is also set to lost dual star Hugh O’Connor to hurling next year, but there is some good news with the return of ace attacker Steven Sherlock to the fold for 2026.

One in and one out for now at least for @OfficialCorkGAA Senior Football Manager John Cleary as @DouglasGAAClub Sean Powter heads down under, while of course @the_Barrs Steven Sherlock recently rejoined the panel.@Corks96FM @C103Cork pic.twitter.com/h3fOcaknY1
