Roscommon ace Murtagh retires from inter-county football

Roscommon forward Ciaráin Murtagh has announced his retirement from inter-county football after 11 years in the Primrose and Blue.
During his inter-county career, Murtagh won a Connacht SFC title, four NFL Division 2 cowns and a Division 3 title.
He was captain when the Rossies captured the Connacht SFC in 2017 and his 122 appearances for his county saw him scoring a total of 24-312.
Roscommon county board chairman Brian Carroll paid a glowing tribute to the retiring Murtagh last night, saying that he “epitomised passion, leadership, and pride in the Roscommon jersey".
"On behalf of everyone in Roscommon GAA, I would like to sincerely thank Ciaráin for his incredible dedication, loyalty, and commitment,” Carroll stated.
"Ciaráin has been an integral part of so many of our most memorable days.
"Off the pitch, he has always been a top-class person, a leader, a gentleman, and someone who brought positivity and spirit to the dressing room every single day.
"He will be greatly missed by team-mates, management, and supporters alike."
