Royals inflict Rossies' first loss as Cavan come from 14 down to defeat Westmeath

Meath came from behind to score a 2-18 to 0-17 win over Roscommon in Navan and secure their third win in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League.
After trailing by 0-12 to 0-8 at the halfway stage, Robbie Brennan’s men got goals from Sean Coffey and Ronan Jones after the change of ends which turned the game on its head in the space of 60 seconds.
Eoghan Frayne’s point steered the Royals in front and, while Davy Burke’s side got back level, two-pointers from Conor Duke (2) and Frayne were enough for the hosts to get the job done and inflict their opponents with their first defeat of the league campaign.
The result now sees Meath joining the Rossies and Monaghan on six points in the hunt for promotion to Division 1 with three rounds remaining.

In Mullingar, Cavan came back from the dead to defeat Westmeath by 1-22 to 0-21 and take a giant stride towards safety.
Coming into the game with three defeats, the hosts were in bad need of both points and looked on course them after running up a 0-12 to 0-2 lead midway through the first-half.
Points from Ray Connellan, Kevin O’Sullivan, Lorcan Dolan and Matthew Whittaker upped the Lake men’s lead to 14 by the 28th minute, but they’d lose midfielder Jack Geoghegan to a red card before Jamie Gonoud was black carded just before half-time.
Cavam made the most of their numerical and wind advantage in the second-half to narrow their deficit down to four points and a brilliantly take Gerard Smith goal in 58th minute had them on the cusp of a sensational comeback.
Dara McVeety would shoot the Breffni men in front and scores from Cian Madden, Gearoid McKiernan and Darragh Lovett down the home stretch ensured the points for Raymond Galligan’s side.
All over here in TEC Cusack Park, Mullingar. Well done lads.🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

Meanwhile, Ger Brennan’s Louth side battled towards a 2-17 to 0-22 win over Down in Newry this afternoon.
The visitors had edged a 0-13 to 1-8 lead at the break but the points of Liam Jackson and Sam Mulroy (free) got Louth level a dozen minutes into the resumption.
Mulroy’s two-pointer swung the Wee County in front ahead of a Kieran McArdle shot finding the Down net and, while Conor Laverty’s men kept the heat on until the last whistle, it was ‘45’ from Mulroy which ended up being the difference between the sides as Louth held on for their second win.
