Slaughtneil await outcome of appeal

Slaughtneil are awaiting the outcome of their appeal over last Sunday's controversial Derry SFC semi-final defeat to Newbridge.
The maroon and whites lodged the appeal following their 1-16 to 0-21 loss to the holders, who are due to face Magherafelt in the county final on Sunday. The controversy relates to a Shane McGuigan injury-time point which Slaughtneil argue should have been awarded as a two-pointer.
The Emmets were further aggrieved when a free awarded to Newbridge from the next play was brought forward 50 metres, with Conor Doherty slotting the two-pointer to put Newbridge in front. Padraig McGrogan added another score in the 63rd minute to give them a two-point victory.
Slaughtneil sought an explanation at last night's Derry CCC hearing, with the new playing rules stating the kicker’s standing foot must be placed on or outside the arc for it to count as a two-point score.
