With its colourful beach huts, pebbled beach, and buzzy harbour, Whistable in Kent is the perfect place to unwind while enjoying the sea air and stunning coastal views. Whitstable’s compact layout makes it an ideal destination to explore on foot, where narrow streets and winding alleyways feature independent shops, quirky galleries, and inviting cafes.

Whether you’re visiting in spring or summer, the town captures the essence of British seaside charm—think oysters along the shore and a lovely pint while looking out to sea. Food lovers in particular are drawn to Whitstable thanks to its renowned seafood scene, especially the town’s famous oysters, which have been harvested there for years. The Oyster Festival celebrates its heritage with lively events, tastings, and live music that attract locals and tourists alike.

Oysters

Whistable Rocks Oyster Festival takes place this year from September 12 to 14.

The annual event is a tradition that stretches all the way back to the Roman Empire, when Julius Caesar’s soldiers are said to have developed a taste for Kentish oysters.

Beyond oysters, the town boasts an array of restaurants and eateries praised for their use of local ingredients and fresh catches of the day.

Whistable's culinary reputation has earned the town a special place on the map for foodies seeking authentic flavours and relaxed dining experiences.

Alongside the food scene, the town’s vibrant arts culture is evident in its many galleries, craft shops, and public art displays.

Whether you go to Whistable for the day or stay for a weekend (most likely depending on where you've travelled from), there's plenty to do to keep all of the family entertained.

While Whistable is a small seaside town, there's plenty going on in the month of June.

To start with, there's Comedy at the Horsebridge on Sunday June 1 as comedian Huge Davies takes centre stage.

Then Whistable's event space, the Playhouse, will have the tribute band Voodoo Room play the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream on Saturday, June 7.

And on June 22, between 11am to 4.30pm, the Holistic and Spiritual Artisan Fair will feature psychics reading rune and tarot cards, artisan crafts for sale and crystals.
