ADAC summer tire test 2025: One tire fails | Size 225/40 R 18

25.02.2025 - 00:00 Reading time: 2 min.
Sporty summer tires boast high driving dynamics and good grip. But not every model delivers what the manufacturers promise. One failed the test with flying colors.
The ADAC tested 18 tires of the dimension 225/40 R 18 - with some serious differences. While eleven models were able to convince with the grade "good", a shocking result emerged at the lower end of the test: The Doublecoin DC-100 received the worst rating (grade 5.5).
The most important safety criterion, the braking distance on wet roads, was where the Doublecoin DC-100 showed its greatest deficit. While the test winner, the Continental SportContact 7, came to a stop after 28.4 meters, the Doublecoin DC-100 needed a full 45.1 meters. That corresponds to a difference of 17 meters - a huge disadvantage that can be decisive in a dangerous situation.
The tire also performed poorly in other safety-related disciplines. On dry roads, it showed poor handling and a lack of control. The Doublecoin DC-100 did impress with the longest mileage in the test - an impressive 74,400 kilometers - but this apparently comes at the expense of safety. The ADAC therefore expressly advises against buying this tire.
In addition to the Doublecoin DC-100, two other tires attracted negative attention:
- Norauto Prevensys 4 (grade 3.9)
- Syron Premium Performance (grade 3.9)
Both models showed clear weaknesses in driving safety and were unable to convince the ADAC. Although they did not receive a "poor" rating, they were among the last in the test and are only recommended to a limited extent.
At the top end of the ranking, premium models were particularly convincing. The four best tires in the test are:
- Continental SportContact 7 (133 euros, grade 1.8) – best tire with the shortest braking distance and excellent handling
- Bridgestone Potenza Sport (121 euros, grade 1.9) – excellent driving dynamics, high grip
- Michelin Pilot Sport 5 (146 euros, grade 1.9) – very good overall result
- Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 (128 euros, rating 1.9) – strong performance on wet and dry roads
But many models in the mid-price segment also received good reviews. The ADAC writes: "They prove that a good balance between driving safety, environmental impact and price is possible in this segment too."
These tires are characterized by a good balance of safety, performance and environmental friendliness. The Continental SportContact 7 in particular emerged as the test winner. In addition to a very short braking distance, it impressed with its high mileage and good environmental balance.
