"Together we are stable, we remain loud!" Hundreds demonstrated against the far-right in Bremen. However, the number of participants remained far below previous protests.
After the federal election , hundreds of people took to the streets in Bremen on Monday evening to protest against the right, despite the rain. The police estimated the number of demonstrators at around 700, while the organizers of the rally spoke of around 3,000 participants.
The rally on the Domshof was organized by the Bremen alliance "Loud against the Right" and had the motto "Together stable, we stay loud!" With music, lights and posters, the participants made a statement against the feared shift to the right after the election.
"Yesterday was the federal election. We suspected it, many feared it - and yet it hurts like hell: a right-wing extremist party has become the second strongest force," said one of the organizers at the event. She stressed how important it is now to stick together and stand up against the right.
Messages such as "Democracy has no alternative" and "No coalition with the AfD" could be read on the posters. The organizers had expected around 10,000 people to attend. The alliance suspects that the significantly lower number of participants was due to the bad weather .
At an earlier rally on February 8, the initiative had already called for a demonstration in Bremen. According to police, more than 35,000 people gathered at that time.
