Fashion Week: The best addresses for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Berlin

You have to eat during Fashion Week too. We have three great addresses for breakfast, lunch and dinner during Fashion Week. And at other times too, of course.
It's been a long time since I've been to Fashion Week. I admit, I usually only notice that Fashion Week is already here when I see black limousines with the organizer's logo driving through Berlin. This week, even more fascinating people populate Berlin's cafes and restaurants. Not necessarily elegantly and beautifully dressed - other cities do that better. Rather unusual.
But I think that fashion in general should not be judged solely on whether you would wear it yourself. So that you too can meet interesting fashion people, I want to give you three tips on where to go for a meal. Food and fashion trends are closely linked culturally. The way the two influence each other can be wonderfully understood historically.
In the Renaissance, for example, opulent fabrics such as brocade were reflected in lavishly decorated banquets that were meant to demonstrate wealth. Later in the Baroque period, things became even more sophisticated: multi-course meals and the first luxury restaurants became popular, often with small, artistic portions. Clothing was also elaborate and decorated during this period. With the industrial revolution, more and more restaurants, cafés and bistros appeared for the commoners. At the same time, standardized mass products began to dominate both the food market and fashion.
Creativity needs disorderIt was only in the middle of the last century that things became more confusing. Today, thanks to globalization and various youth movements, we have a wonderful mix of high and low fashion, gourmet and snack culture, regional and international styles. When it comes to eating and dressing, we like to follow our personal convictions and our pleasure principle. And like us, these are often contradictory and changeable.

Luckily, there is no other German city where this can be experienced as well as Berlin. Because creativity needs disorder. And because it arises from contradiction, we can boast of having the most exciting restaurant scene (and hopefully fashion scene again someday) here in Berlin.
1. Breakfast: Breakfast3000 in Kreuzberg and Schöneberg“Everyone can, no one has to” – this is exactly the motto for an extended brunch session at Frühstück3000. You will certainly meet some of the approximately 200,000 creative people who are supposedly back in Berlin for Fashion Week.
This restaurant was one of the first places to remove time limits from breakfast, employing real chefs to create ambitious dishes for the first meal of the day, and complementing them with wine and even cocktail accompaniments. Here you can tuck into the calorie bomb Chicken Waffle with crispy fried chicken and a bacon-infused caramel sauce, as well as a protein-rich steak tartare marinated in sesame vinaigrette and soy. Or a vegan breakfast burrito with BBQ mushrooms and baked tofu.

I can also recommend the fantastic espresso martini, which gives you a kickstart to the day. Of course, the perfect Bonanza cappuccino in a delicate porcelain cup or a homemade yuzu lemonade will do the trick too. You also have the choice between two locations at Frühstück3000: the new, larger one in Kreuzberg opposite the Jewish Museum and the old one in Schöneberg. If it's fully booked online, I recommend calling. Usually, you can still get in spontaneously on the same day, like in my case recently, when I was sitting in the Schöneberg restaurant an hour after calling.
One of my favorite dishes on the menu is and remains the potato terrine. For me, it is a new discovery for breakfast: chips-thinly sliced potatoes are layered into a bar and then deep-fried. The crushable crunchiness is contrasted with two eggs and an almond cream. And wild broccoli and crispy chili oil provide spicy freshness. Whatever you choose, this casual breakfast follows no rules - except for the common denominator, which is excellence.
2. Lunch: Club Kitchen in Mitte
This also applies to the lunch location Klub Kitchen, whose excellence lies in its guaranteed freshness. Since its founding a few years ago, this concept, which began as a family project and neighborhood restaurant, has been a huge hit. There are now three locations in Berlin, and you can find them primarily on Almstadtstrasse in Mitte, the zeitgeist-conscious community that has something to do with fashion, design, architecture, media, or other creative professions. Klub Kitchen was founded by Berlin fashion designer and networker Hà Duong. Her daughters have also joined in, and the skillful Instagram presence plays a major role in its success. And of course, the lunch dishes, which are mostly vegetable-based, are really balanced and not too heavy on the stomach.
After all, you still need to think after lunch. My favorite dish here is the bowl with salmon on white rice, which is coated in a wonderfully caramelized, dark soy-ginger sauce and accompanied by edamame. And if you like things sustainable and vegetarian this month, try the Roasted Winter Veggies: buttercauliflower, Brussels sprouts, beetroot, carrots and kale - sometimes with a bite, sometimes almost raw, sometimes marinated, sometimes fermented and always perfect in texture. Served with unusually fluid hummus and za'atar butter crumbs as a dressing.
3rd Dinner: Crackers Unter den LindenBut now to the hotspot par excellence, where you can dress up in style: Crackers. The old Cookies Club atmosphere can still be felt in the dining room, which is raised on a platform and has turquoise upholstered seats. If you follow the neon sign with the words "You're fucking free" through the bright blue kitchen, you will be immersed in golden light at the table, which is flattering for every figure and every age. Not entirely unimportant.

During Fashion Week, Crackers repeatedly hosted the official Fashion Council dinner, which brings together international fashion journalists, content creators and stylists. The scene loves the iconic store as much as the casual, fun-loving food of the two young chefs Felix Klawitter and Patrick Ziegert: Among the starters, the burrata is definitely a good choice, which usually bores me to no end, but here it is combined with savoy cabbage, a Korean gochujang oil and pear chutney.
The particularly creamy tartar with crème fraîche and egg yolk is also popular here. Of the main courses, my favorite is and remains the wild-caught halibut with its sensational panko crumb crust and a beurre blanc infused with jalapeño that is simply to die for. Instead of partying with heated bodies like in the past, Crackers now celebrates this unique mixture of soul food, service, sound and beauty.
