The Freedom Party is submitting inquiries about "Roadrunners" to the National Council and the Vienna City Council. The focus is on Heiligenstädter Straße in Vienna's Döbling district.
They usually have tuned vehicles, like to meet at night, and view speed limits as merely a recommendation: So-called roadrunners repeatedly cause trouble on the streets. The FPÖ is now submitting inquiries on this issue to both the National Council and the Vienna City Council. One street in Vienna has been identified as a hotspot. Among other things, the Freedom Party wants to know how many incidents have already occurred.
According to the FPÖ, massive noise pollution and dangerous speeding by the scene around Heiligenstädter Straße in Vienna's Döbling district have been causing anger and concern among residents for years. FPÖ National Council member Hubert Fuchs and FPÖ City Councilor Klemens Resch complain that the city and the Ministry of the Interior have not yet been able to sustainably address the problem. They now want information about the measures taken so far against the speeders, as they told APA.
Specifically, FPÖ City Councilor Resch will inquire with City Councilor for Transport Ulli Sima (SPÖ) about how many complaints the city has received since 2020 and what concrete measures have been taken. He will specifically inquire about the city's level of information, internal coordination between various municipal departments, and exchanges with the district administration.
They also want to know whether the City of Vienna has systematically assessed the extent of the problem—for example, whether they have conducted noise measurements or traffic counts. At the same time, a request from the National Council will be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior. According to the FPÖ, the focus here is on what the police know about the composition and behavior of the scene, how many operations have already taken place, and what violations have been recorded. They also want to know whether there are any concrete proposals for containing the situation.
At the same time, the representatives from the Blue Party are asking whether changes to on-street parking are conceivable. They are calling for nighttime resident parking in this area. "It is completely unacceptable that an entire residential population has been terrorized for years and left to deal with the problem alone while those in political power play for time," Fuchs and Resch said in a joint statement.
