WHO: More than 460 dead in attacks on hospital in Sudan

Attacks on a hospital in the Sudanese city of al-Fashir have killed more than 460 people, according to the World Health Organization ( WHO ). The victims were patients and their companions at the Saudi Maternity Hospital, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced in Geneva .
The attack was horrific and deeply shocking. Health workers had been abducted beforehand. Tedros did not provide further details. Prior to this latest attack, the WHO had recorded a total of 185 attacks on healthcare facilities in the conflict in Sudan, resulting in 1,204 deaths and 416 injuries.
This year alone, there have been 49 such attacks, resulting in 966 deaths. All attacks on healthcare facilities must be stopped immediately and unconditionally.
After a year and a half of siege, the RSF militia captured al-Fashir, the capital of the North Darfur state, over the weekend. Since April 2023, the paramilitary RSF militia and the army have been waging a war for resources and power at the expense of the civilian population. According to the Sudanese Medical Network, the militia killed at least 1,500 unarmed civilians in the city within three days.
