Novel: Mama read Marx

Reading time: 4 min.
With "Three Sisters," Christian Baron completes the Kaiserslautern trilogy about his precarious origins. But this time, he slips into pedantic pretentiousness. What a pity.
In Anton Chekhov's play, the three sisters are called Irina, Masha, and Olga, and they want only one thing: to escape the provinces, return to Moscow, and then find love! Life! In Christian Baron's new novel, the three sisters are called Juli, Ella, and Mira, and they finally want to escape Kaiserslautern and their precarious circumstances, which we already know from two other novels in this trilogy: "A Man of His Class" and "Beautiful Is the Night." They were so movingly angry and poetic that I will always respect the author Christian Baron, even if this third book about the Wagner family is partly a failure.
