The Federal Intelligence Service (BND) recently started offering merchandise, and it's really needed right now. It's the hottest day of the year, and people are trudging across the scorching Berlin asphalt. Above all, however, journalistic reflexes are suffering: Upon visiting the BND Visitor Center on Berlin's Chausseestraße, there's neither a notepad nor a pencil in my handbag. A total operational failure. The mission is threatened with abort before it's even begun.
