Comment: The Tesla stock, which is part of the Depot 2030 portfolio, is similarly demonized in 2025 as it was 15 years ago when a US stock market guru loudly advised selling. Humanoid robots deserve a chance, just like rickety electric cars did back in 2010.

I wish for human robots—to help us clear the forests of waste, to carry the sneakers (produced by robots) delivered by robo-vans to the mailbox in 2030. In the future, robots at trade fairs could help us restock thousands of AKTIONÄR magazines even faster.

It was a pleasure: Many readers (couples, police officers, managers, crypto millionaires, an 83-year-old stock market legend) said hello at the Invest trade fair in Stuttgart. One request: to improve the clarity and readability, which we have implemented with the update of the report layout – see image detail.

(This commentary has been published and updated in the new HSR 17/2025 )

I returned home the 400 kilometers in a flash, with a 10-minute 800-volt charging break in my VW electric car. Things were different 15 years ago: In 2010, as an electric car enthusiast, I tested the first rickety Italian electric cars with a range of 50 kilometers. A range breakthrough seemed far away. But then Tesla came along!

HSR in a new design

US stock market guru Jim Cramer shouted at the 2010 IPO: "Sell! Sell! Sell! You shouldn't even rent the damn thing." When everyone warns and fears (as they did with Bitcoin in 2015), my contrarian and protective instincts are awakened. In AKTIONÄR, we therefore recommended the controversial, loss-making startup Tesla in 2011, at around $1.33 after adjustment for splits. Years later, Musk became too loud and imprecise for me, even with his robotaxi announcements, which is why I left the Tesla party too early in 2016 and invested in stocks like Nvidia and Xiaomi.

Robots: A big hit like the electric car?

But now, in 2025, it feels a bit like 2011 again: Many demonize Musk, believing in AI and humanoid robots just as little as they did in electric cars back then. Flat robots from Xiaomi vacuum my apartment and mow the lawn – but it takes hands and flexibility to put away the dishes, trim the hedge, or clear snow. In 2030, 40,000 workers will be replaced by humanoids, before, in 2050, an army of robots will do the (often dangerous or strenuous) work that previously required 63 million people to get up early for. After electric cars and AI, humanoid robots will be the next big thing!

Tesla will not increase by a hundredfold – but in our 2030 portfolio we are betting on once again making a contrarian bet against the majority opinion.

THE SHAREHOLDER 21/25

It's every investor's dream: to find the next Amazon, Apple, Tesla, or Google before anyone else, to put it in your portfolio, not touch it for years, and then one day to own a ten-, twenty-, or even a hundred-fold increase. Or at least to find companies whose shares outperform the overall market. The name of this art: "stock picking" – selecting tomorrow's winners. Joel Tillinghast is one of the most successful stock pickers of all time. In this book, he shares his thoughts, methods, and strategies with the reader. He shows the mistakes the masses make, the niches you can exploit, how you should think, and much more. The bottom line is a textbook that will make its readers more successful investors.
