Tesla: Goodbye Billion

The weakness of Tesla shares has consequences. The shares fell again today by almost ten percent. This is also reflected in the car manufacturer's market capitalization. It is now back below the magic mark of one trillion dollars. Tesla's latest sales figures were not exactly encouraging and investors are asking themselves: does Tesla have a sales problem?
Analyst Mike Ward calculates that Tesla sold around 13 percent fewer cars in the USA in January 2025 than in 2024. At the same time, however, sales of electric cars in the USA increased by 15 percent in January 2025 compared to January 2024. This means that Tesla appears to have lost market share. To be fair, however, Tesla's market share is still around 45 percent. In Europe, however, things look even bleaker for Tesla. There, the company sold 9,945 cars in January. That is 45 percent fewer than in the previous year. And sales figures are also falling in China.
Of course, the numbers should not be accepted without thinking. Tesla has released a new version of the Model Y. It is quite possible that buyers have held off in order to get the new version.
Perhaps the problem lies in the person of Elon Musk himself. His closeness to Trump and the policies he is currently pursuing do not fit his traditional audience. Some of them are left-leaning Americans and environmentally conscious Europeans. This is not exactly the clientele that Donald Trump's policies appeal to. It is therefore quite possible that some buyers are turning away from Elon Musk and are therefore not currently buying a Tesla.
Tesla is not currently a current recommendation from AKTIONÄR. The chart currently speaks volumes. From a technical point of view, investors can hope that Tesla shares will turn around at 250 euros. But if this area does not hold, 200 euros is quickly possible. Until serious signs of a trend reversal are apparent, investors will stay on the sidelines.
