“Economist” ranking: Vienna no longer the most livable city

London. In the ranking of the world's most livable cities, there's a change at the top for the first time in years: Vienna, after three consecutive top rankings, has been replaced by Copenhagen. Following the Danish and Austrian capitals, which achieved the same scores as the Swiss metropolis of Zurich, in the ranking by the British "Economist" group are Melbourne, Australia, and Geneva, Switzerland.
The so-called Global Liveability Index 2025 - compiled by the research and analysis department of the Economist Group called EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) - continues with Sydney (Australia), Osaka (Japan), Auckland (New Zealand), Adelaide (Australia) and Vancouver (Canada).
According to the Economist, Copenhagen achieved the top score of 100 points in the areas of stability, education and infrastructure, rising from second place.
The EIU index evaluates 173 cities worldwide based on 30 indicators in various categories, including healthcare, culture, and the environment. Kyiv ranks 165th. Damascus (Syria), Tripoli (Libya), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Karachi (Pakistan), and Algiers (Algeria) are at the bottom.
