A fisherman falls into a harbor basin at night.

A man drowned while attempting to rescue a fisherman from a harbor basin in Wolgast. According to witnesses, the fisherman fell over the edge of the harbor and drowned during the night, police reported. A group of people passing by noticed the accident. A 40-year-old man then jumped into the water to rescue the 27-year-old and also drowned.

Emergency services searched for the two missing people in Wolgast harbor with a helicopter, three boats, lifeguards, divers, and thermal imaging drones. They were found after about two and a half hours and pulled lifeless from the water by divers. Police are now investigating the cause of the accident.
