Border visit in Bavaria: With the license to reject

For a few days now, the Federal Police have been able to turn away asylum seekers. What does this look like on the ground? A visit to the German-Austrian border.
Early Monday afternoon, a four-lane federal highway over the Saalach, the river that separates Salzburg on the Austrian side and Freilassing on the German side—or connects them, as the case may be. On the bridge, nearly ten federal police officers are now monitoring border traffic seven days a week, 24 hours a day, ever since the new Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), instructed his troops almost a week ago to intensify controls and, if necessary, to reject migrants seeking asylum in Germany.
