Convict escapes from courtroom in Saarbrücken

A convicted criminal was back in court on further charges. After the verdict was announced, he ran from the dock to the window and jumped outside. A manhunt is now underway for him.
A previously convicted inmate escaped from the Saarbrücken Regional Court in a highly unusual manner during a trial on further charges. "After the verdict was announced at around 3:10 p.m., the inmate jumped over the dock to the window and managed to escape," police reported late Friday evening. The 42-year-old then ran toward the state parliament and escaped. The manhunt for him, which was immediately launched, was initially unsuccessful.
A prison officer attempted to detain the man as he fled the courtroom and reportedly sustained minor injuries to his hands. Police were unable to say last night why the offender had originally been convicted or on what charges he was now facing trial. However, they assured that he did not pose a danger to the public. The public prosecutor's office was unavailable for comment.
According to police, the fugitive was wearing a white shirt and dark pants. He was bald, 1.90 meters tall, and slim. Witnesses were asked for information.
