Despite ceasefire: India and Pakistan continue to fight

The Indian military claims to have killed more than 100 militants in its attacks on Pakistani territory in recent weeks. Indian Chief of Operations Rajiv Ghai said on Sunday that militia leaders were among those killed in the Pakistani part of Kashmir and in Pakistan. Both sides agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday.

Ghai said at a press conference in New Delhi that Indian forces had destroyed nine infrastructure and training facilities belonging to extremists, including facilities belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which is blamed for attacks in India and the disputed Kashmir region. The Indian military had succeeded in carrying out unexpected attacks, while the Pakistani response was confused and uncertain. There was no way to independently verify his statements.

The two neighboring countries agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday to defuse the most serious military confrontation between them in decades. However, the ceasefire was shattered just hours later by overnight fighting in Kashmir, with both sides accusing each other of repeatedly violating the agreement.
