Somalia: Dozens killed in Islamist attack on army bases

Mogadishu. Fighters from the Islamist terrorist militia Al-Shabaab have attacked three army bases in central Somalia. According to Somali security authorities, 48 Islamists were killed. A statement from the Somali Ministry of Information even mentioned that around 70 attackers had been killed.
There were no official figures on the army's losses. Al-Shabaab's radio station said the Islamists had killed 51 soldiers. The figures from both sides cannot currently be independently verified. The attack was repelled with the help of special forces trained by the USA, it was said.
Only a few days ago, 13 soldiers were killed in a similar attack by Al-Shabaab fighters on military positions.
The Islamist militia has been fighting in the country on the Horn of Africa for years, but has also carried out terrorist attacks in neighboring countries such as Kenya and Uganda. Al-Shabaab controls parts of Somalia, but also repeatedly carries out attacks in the capital Mogadishu against politicians, journalists and representatives of civil society who stand for a Western lifestyle.
