Investors often act as if history is repeating itself. Is this a mistake? It's worth considering some very fundamental considerations.
Anyone who invests money is familiar with the disclaimer that states that past results are not a guide to future results. Everyone understands this, but still acts as if history will simply repeat itself and the stock market will once again deliver the same returns for long-term investments as it did in the past. That may be the case, but it doesn't have to be.
