US President Trump accuses Putin of talking nonsense.

US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering supplying an additional air defense system to Ukraine, signaling a possible shift in his stance in the war. According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), he is considering sending Kyiv an additional Patriot air defense system in light of the massive Russian attacks. This would mark the first time he has authorized the delivery of a major weapons system to Kyiv, exceeding the number promised by the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden. At the same time, Trump expressed anger at Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of talking a lot of nonsense.

Trump had previously reiterated his support for a quick end to the war and emphasized that he was not at all happy with Putin. Now, on Tuesday at the White House, he said that Putin was not treating people right; he was killing too many people. Therefore, the US would send some defensive weapons to Ukraine—he had authorized it. Trump added: "We get a lot of nonsense from Putin." He was very nice all the time, "but it turns out it's meaningless."

Just a few weeks ago, Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of prolonging the war with inflammatory statements. He showed understanding toward Putin, however, and sided with Russia on key issues such as Ukraine's NATO accession. Despite all of Trump's appeals, Putin refused to sit down with Zelensky for peace talks.

Report: Trump considers delivery of Patriot system

The WSJ, citing two officials, reported that Trump is considering sending an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. According to the White House, the Pentagon is asking for options for the delivery of additional weapons, including a Patriot system.

The US has so far provided Kyiv with three Patriot systems, Germany has delivered another three, and a consortium of European countries has sent one, a former Pentagon official told the WSJ. However, not all of them are operational at the same time due to maintenance work.

Zelenskyy expects deliveries soon

Following new talks with US representatives, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made it clear that he expects arms deliveries from the US soon. "This primarily concerns air defense and all other elements of the deliveries from America," the head of state said in his daily video message.

He instructed Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky to intensify "all contacts with the American side." The necessary statements and decisions for lifting the partial arms embargo have come from Washington.

Ukraine urgently needs Patriot air defense systems to better protect itself against constant Russian air and missile attacks. Due to the increasing attacks, Kyiv is urging its Western allies to strengthen the country's air defenses. According to the WSJ, the country is also exploring whether other countries could provide Kyiv with additional Patriot systems.

The US-made Patriot air defense missile system is one of the most modern in the world. It is used to combat enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. Depending on the missile used, the missiles can strike targets in an imaginary circle around the position at a range of approximately 100 kilometers and at altitudes of up to 30 kilometers. Using radar, the Patriot system first classifies which aircraft in the sky are enemy. In the event of a threat, soldiers in the control center fire the guided missiles to neutralize the targets.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three years. Moscow's military has been trying for weeks to overwhelm its neighboring country's air defenses.

CNN: Hegseth did not inform the White House about the delivery stoppage

Last week, it was reported that the US had halted deliveries of some previously promised weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles. CNN, citing five people familiar with the matter, reported that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth did not inform the White House before authorizing the pause in arms deliveries to Ukraine last week. This triggered a frantic effort by the administration to understand the reasons for the pause and explain them to Congress and the Ukrainian government.

Russia continues to attack

According to media reports, Russia again attacked regions in the west of the country with missiles and drones overnight, hundreds of kilometers from the front line. Citing the Ukrainian Air Force, The Kyiv Independent reported that drones were moving toward the cities of Lutsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil.

The RBK-Ukraine news agency reported that residents of the northwestern city of Lutsk were ordered to seek shelter. Regional radio reported that explosions were heard in the city.

According to "The Kyiv Independent," explosions were also reported in places closer to the front line, such as Sumy, Zaporizhia, and Dnipro. Reporters also reported explosions in the capital, Kyiv. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the city center was attacked and air defenses were activated. A woman was injured near the capital, according to the regional military administration.

The Air Force had warned earlier that evening of missiles and drones from Russia. According to the report, at least one of the difficult-to-intercept Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic missiles had been fired toward the western Ukrainian region of Zhytomyr. Air raid warnings had been issued throughout the country.

Deaths also reported from Kursk

Meanwhile, according to Russian authorities, at least three people were killed by a drone in the western Russian city of Kursk. Another six people were injured, Governor Alexander Khinshtein announced on Telegram on Tuesday. He accused the Ukrainian army of attacking a beach in the city, which has a population of more than 400,000. Kursk is just over 90 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border.
