USA imposes new sanctions against Iran

The US government is imposing sanctions on 30 Iranian individuals and companies for allegedly attempting to conceal revenues from oil sales.
Despite ongoing negotiations regarding Iran's controversial nuclear program, the US government has imposed further sanctions on Tehran. The sanctions apply to more than 30 individuals and companies that the US government accuses of money laundering amounting to billions of dollars.
Due to the new sanctions, any assets of the affected individuals and companies in the United States will be frozen. Furthermore, US citizens are no longer allowed to do business with them. The sanctions also make it significantly more difficult for those affected to conduct international business – especially when transactions are denominated in US dollars.
The United States and Iran are currently negotiating the future of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. US President Donald Trump wants to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. The leadership in Tehran denies even pursuing this goal and insists that nuclear energy should be used for civilian purposes. Oman is mediating the negotiations.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran with military strikes if the talks fail.
