Wave of bankruptcies: Many insolvencies continue in Germany

Reasons for the bankruptcies include weak consumer demand, rising costs for energy, and bureaucratic burdens. The increase was partly expected after government support for the coronavirus pandemic expired.
For April, the Federal Office reported 2,125 final corporate insolvencies filed. This was 11.5 percent more than a year earlier. However, because these were, on average, significantly smaller cases, the total amount of creditors' claims fell from €11.4 billion to €2.5 billion.
