As the second BVB professional: Guirassy wins the CL top scorer crown - and has to share it

After the Champions League final, it's clear: Serhou Guirassy is the top scorer of the past Champions League season. However, the Dortmund player shares this honor with Barcelona's Raphinha.

Desiré Doué catapulted himself into the top 20 of the season's Champions League goalscorers with two goals in the historic 5-0 final victory against Inter Milan . But, as expected, nothing further happened at the top of this list.
After all, Inter's Lautaro Martinez (9 goals) or PSG striker Ousmane Dembelé (8 goals) would have had to score four times in the Munich final to equal the leading duo. Each would have needed one more to be crowned last season's top scorer.
Instead, Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund and Raphinha of FC Barcelona secured the top scorer crown for the 2024/25 Champions League season, each scoring 13 goals in 14 matches. For both, this is a first in the premier class.
Raphinha top scorer of the Champions League seasonHowever, Guirassy needed 138 fewer minutes to score his 13 goals than his counterpart from Catalonia, averaging 83 minutes per goal (Raphinha: 94 minutes per goal). No one in the top 10 has a better average. The 29-year-old Dortmund striker also benefited from taking penalties for BVB (5/6), while Robert Lewandowski (3/3) mostly takes that role for Barcelona, sharing third place with Harry Kane (11 goals each).

By the way, Guirassy doesn't come close to Raphinha in the top scorer rankings. While the former contributed seven assists for his teammates, thus reaching 20 points, the 28-year-old Brazilian has 23 (13 goals, 10 assists) – a best of the past Champions League season. In La Liga, Raphinha scored 18 goals in 36 games, and he recently extended his contract with the Spanish champions until 2028 .
Guirassy following in Haaland's footstepsGuirassy – the season's second-best scorer with 21 goals in the Bundesliga behind Kane (26) – is the second BVB striker in the history of the Champions League or European Cup to win the top scorer title. Erling Haaland, who scored ten goals in 2020/21, was the last to do so.
However, Guirassy and Raphinha couldn't challenge Cristiano Ronaldo 's record for most goals in a season. In the 2013/14 season, the Portuguese, then playing for Real Madrid, netted 17 times in eleven matches. CR7 won the Champions League top scorer title a total of seven times – also a record ahead of Lionel Messi (6).
