Bitter misplaced pass into the center: U 23 clearly loses against the Netherlands

Without Alara Sehitler, Marie Müller and Ena Mahmutovic, the U-23 women lacked a bit of substance. In the 1:4 defeat in the Netherlands, an unnecessary cross pass into their own penalty area led to the preliminary decision.

"Against the Netherlands we can expect a similar game to Thursday," U-23 national coach Kathrin Peter had speculated after the narrow victory over England: "Their players are a little stronger, technically skilled and will put a lot of pressure on us."
She was right. After a quarter of an hour, it had its first effect. Keukelaar dribbled past almost the entire German defense. Only at the end did she pass to de Keijzer, who beat Dick from close range (16').
The early deficit lasted for a long time, even after Zdebel's dangerous direct shot after half an hour. The equalizer by Martinez was largely the result of an individual effort: the West Ham striker dribbled from the left to the inside and finished strongly into the far corner (63').
Janzen had to clear a completely unnecessary cross pass from Veit from outside into his own penalty area, but in doing so he clearly hit Tolhoek. The Ajax attacker scored directly from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 for the Netherlands (69th minute) and added another goal from a tight angle just two minutes later (71st minute).
In injury time, Oranje, in the person of Keukelaar, used a counterattack to make it 4:1 (90.+1). Without Sehitler, Müller and Mahmutovic (all recalled to the senior national team in the past few days), Peter's team lacked some substance. However, the selection had previously won 3:2 in England with Sehitler and Mahmutovic.
