Cycling: Hollmann suffers broken bones at the Giro

One day after the serious mass crash on the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia, the diagnosis for German cyclist Juri Hollmann has been confirmed. The 25-year-old suffered a double fracture of his right forearm and a compound fracture of his right hip, according to his team Alpecin-Deceuninck. Hollmann was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Herentals, Belgium, where he is continuing treatment.
On Thursday, around 70 kilometers from the finish in Naples, numerous professional cyclists crashed on a rain-soaked road, including 2022 Giro d'Italia winner Jai Hindley. The Australian apparently suffered a mild concussion and a fracture of the third lumbar vertebra. "But otherwise, I'm fine," wrote the German Red Bull Team rider, thanking everyone for their well-wishes on his social media channel.
On Friday, favorite Primoz Roglic took over the pink jersey after the first mountain finish. A fourth-place finish was enough for the 35-year-old Slovenian on the tough seventh stage of the Tour of Italy, covering 168 kilometers and 3,500 meters of elevation. The German Red Bull Team rider is four seconds ahead of the stage winner, Spaniard Juan Ayuso, and nine seconds ahead of Isaac Del Toro of Mexico in the overall standings. Ayuso prevailed over Del Toro and former Tour winner Egan Bernal of Colombia on the final climb, with gradients of up to 14 percent, in Tagliacozzo in Abruzzo.
