Medal table: World Athletics Championships in Tokyo 2025 – all countries at a glance

The 20th World Athletics Championships will take place in Tokyo. 2,202 athletes from 198 nations will participate, with the German Athletics Federation (DLV) represented by 80 athletes. The World Championships in Athletics begin on Saturday , September 13 , and end on Sunday , September 21, 2025. The 35-kilometer race walk kicks off at 12:30 a.m. CEST. The 4x100-meter relay races conclude on Sunday afternoon CEST (women at 2:06 p.m. and men at 2:20 p.m.).

From 100 meters to decathlon

ARD, ZDF, and Eurosport will broadcast the World Athletics Championships on free TV. Free live streams are available in the ARD and ZDF media libraries, on sportschau.de , and sportstudio.de . Paid streams are available on DAZN and discovery+ .

The World Athletics Championships take place every two years . They are organized by the international athletics federation World Athletics and, alongside the Olympic Games, are considered the most important international event in the athletics calendar. The next World Athletics Championships after Tokyo 2025 will be held in Beijing in 2027. The next Summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028 .

Athletes from almost every country in the world participate in the World Championships. Qualifications are based on national competitions or the achievement of certain standards set by the federation.
