Transfer confirmed - Gittens leaves Dortmund for Chelsea

After tough negotiations, Jamie Gittens is moving from Borussia Dortmund to English Premier League club Chelsea.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract with the Premier League club until 2032, as the London club confirmed on Saturday after reaching the semifinals of the Club World Cup. The transfer fee, including potential bonuses, is said to be €65 million.

The winger had already completed his medical with the Blues last weekend. However, the 20-year-old Englishman subsequently returned to Dortmund's team headquarters in Fort Lauderdale because the agreement was dragging on.

Kehl: "Outstanding player"

BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl announced the completion of the transfer shortly before Dortmund's quarterfinal match against Real Madrid. "Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a lot of joy. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success."

With the realization of this transfer, the management expects a significant positive effect on the figures for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Gittens, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City's youth team in 2020, has recently played a less prominent role under BVB coach Niko Kovac. In the USA, the Englishman only made a brief appearance in the opening match against Fluminense (0-0), partly out of caution in light of Chelsea's interest.
