Dress rehearsal botched, but previously undefeated for a long timeThe German national team entered the 2023 European Championship as reigning champions, but was eliminated after the preliminary round after one draw and two defeats in a group that included England, Israel, and the Czech Republic. Since then, however, Germany's record has been excellent, making the U21s one of the favorites again. In the 15 official matches played since their European Championship exit – ten of which were in qualifying for this year's tournament – Germany has emerged victorious eleven times, with four games ending in a draw.
Shortly before the start of the tournament, the German national team suffered a setback: their dress rehearsal in a friendly against Finland failed. After four 30-minute quarters, the overall score was 2-1 for the Finns.
