Even if it's not necessarily hell, there are contaminated, ruined, even damned places that no one can or should enter anymore. Chernobyl is the most famous of these places, which, in the eyes of normal human beings, are lost ground, forever radioactively contaminated and thus uninhabitable. Wittenoom, located in northwestern Australia , a good 1,400 kilometers north of Perth, is another such place, for which the term "ghost town" still sounds far too appealing.
