CFE guarantees electricity supply for the next 10 years in Torreón and Saltillo

In a context of growing energy demand and speculation about potential supply shortages, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reaffirmed its operational capacity to adequately meet the needs of the municipalities of Torreón and Saltillo. With a robust infrastructure strategy and preventive actions, the state-owned company projects energy stability for the next decade.
He reported that Coahuila currently has 78 substations capable of meeting a demand of 2,103 megawatts (MW), with an installed capacity of 2,945 megavolt-amperes (MVA), representing a utilization level of 71%. He rejected alleged power supply failures.
As part of its vision for the future, the CFE is carrying out key projects such as the construction of the Angostura substation in Saltillo, the Santa María II substation in Ramos Arizpe, and the La Unión substation in Torreón. Additionally, the Saltillo substation switchboard is being upgraded, which will increase the capacity of the General Distribution Networks (RGD) in the city center by 100 MVA.
The company acknowledged that the RGDs face external factors that can affect their operation, such as atmospheric discharges, the presence of animals, and vegetation near the lines. It indicated that between May and June 2025, 160 medium-voltage events were recorded in Torreón, affecting an average of 219 users, and 241 low-voltage interruptions impacting 20 users.
In Saltillo, between May and July of that year, 36 medium-voltage events and 323 low-voltage outages were reported, affecting an average of 209 and 27 users, respectively. In both cases, the company indicated that more than 80% of the outages were attributed to causes unrelated to network maintenance.
To mitigate these risks, the CFE reported that it has intensified its maintenance efforts. From January to July 2025, 14,499 trees were pruned in Torreón, 518 insulators and 506 lightning rods were replaced, 1,939 wildlife protectors, 11 automated sectioning devices, and 16 power transformers were installed. In Saltillo, 16,046 trees were pruned, 1,352 insulators and 632 lightning rods were replaced, and 393 wildlife protectors were installed, in addition to one distribution transformer and five power transformers.
With these actions, the CFE seeks to strengthen its commitment to reliable electric service and demonstrate that strategic planning and preventive maintenance are fundamental pillars for ensuring safe and continuous energy in northern Mexico.
