Spain starts the week with a map full of contrasts: while the south prepares for a furnace of over 40°C , the Mediterranean sharpens clouds laden with rain and thunder.
In Andalusia, the orange color is taking over the Cordoba countryside and the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaén, where temperatures could climb to a fiery 41°C in the middle of the day on Monday.
The agency also raises the risk level in the Morena and Condado region (Jaén): peaks of 40°C are expected, coinciding with the critical period, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The heat doesn't stop there: Granada, Huelva, Seville, Badajoz, Ciudad Real, and Toledo maintain yellow warnings for highs of 38-39°C; Ávila is settling for 37°C. On the plateau, sweltering temperatures will be the order of the day for anyone who steps outside.
However, the sky will turn capricious in the Balearic Islands and the Levantine coast: Aemet (Mexico's National Meteorological Agency) has issued a warning for rain that could leave 20 mm in one hour. Mallorca, Alicante, and Valencia will be looking to the sky for thunderous showers during the afternoon.
Later in the evening, storms will target Barcelona and Tarragona with the same intensity and a 10-40% chance; the warning is yellow, but it's best not to be overconfident and go out without an umbrella.
