Nvidia to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT

Technology company Nvidia announced this Monday a "historic strategic alliance" with artificial intelligence company OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT , through which it will invest up to $100 billion (about €85 billion at current exchange rates) progressively to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of its systems in the next generation of the AI start-up's models.
Specifically, the goal will be to train and execute its next generation on the path to "superintelligence," as well as invest in data center capacity and energy. According to both companies, the first phase of the agreement is expected to be operational by the second half of 2026, utilizing the Nvidia Vera Rubin platform.
OpenAI and Nvidia will work as preferred strategic partners in computing and networking to "jointly optimize" their development and growth plans.
Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, has pointed to computing infrastructure as "the foundation of the economy of the future." "We will use what we are developing with Nvidia to create new advances in AI and empower people and businesses at scale."
Looking ahead to leading the next step, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang noted that the two companies have been supporting each other for "a decade." "From the first DGX supercomputer to the advancement of ChatGPT," the executive noted.
