Jorge Macri led an Ibero-American summit on transport and urban development in Buenos Aires


The mayor of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri , led the XXI General Assembly of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI) in Buenos Aires . The meeting brought together representatives from 20 capital cities to discuss mobility, security and sustainable development .
The sessions were held at the Usina del Arte and at the Buenos Aires City Government headquarters . The objective was to define common priorities in the face of the urban challenges shared by the region's major cities.
The opening ceremony was led by Macri , along with the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida , and the Secretary General of the UCCI, Almudena Maíllo del Valle . During the event, the work plan for the next two years was approved, and the organization's leadership was renewed.

In addition, delegations from Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Santiago de Chile participated in a Southern Cone coordination meeting. This meeting addressed common policies on innovation, sustainability, and metropolitan planning.
According to official sources, the purpose is to continue previous agreements and strengthen cooperation between capital cities. “Ibero-America shares history, language, and challenges. But this assembly represents something more: the decision to network, join forces, and create policies that allow our cities to grow with greater security, development, and innovation,” said Jorge Macri during the opening.
Furthermore, the forum “Ibero-American Cities: Dialogue, Integration and Action for a Common Future” was held. Mayors and specialists discussed innovation, sustainability, security, and urban development .
Urban planner Greg Clark , a world-renowned expert on metropolitan policy, spoke about successful models of regional planning. Later, in a ceremony at the Teatro Colón , Martínez-Almeida presented Buenos Aires with the Plaza Mayor de la Cultura Iberoamericana diploma , in recognition of its cultural achievements.
The Buenos Aires city government declared the mayors in attendance Guests of Honor and named the head of government of Madrid an Illustrious Visitor . According to the organizers, these distinctions aim to strengthen political and cultural ties between Ibero-American cities.
The UCCI functions as a space for dialogue between local governments. At each assembly, joint strategies are designed and management commitments are reviewed.
This edition focused on mobility, transport and citizen security . The organizers highlighted that working together allows for faster and more sustainable solutions than those pursued separately.
The closing remarks were delivered by Jorge Macri , who praised the cooperation between the capital cities. “When cities share experiences, the results multiply. Regional collaboration is key to improving the quality of life for residents,” stated the Mayor of Buenos Aires.
