Despite rapid intervention by emergency services, the man, who fell some 8 metres, could not be resuscitated and his death was confirmed at 00:06 on Monday (22:06 GMT on Sunday).

The circumstances of the fall are under investigation. Police said the victim was from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a town 90 km south of Munich.
