27 cases of dengue and chikungunya recorded since May 1 in PACA: ARS strengthens the fight against the tiger mosquito

Since the start of the enhanced surveillance period in mainland France, which runs from May 1 to November 30, 27 indigenous cases of diseases transmitted by the tiger mosquito have been recorded in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region: 21 cases of chikungunya and 5 cases of dengue fever.
Faced with this situation, the Paca Regional Health Agency (ARS) and Public Health France Paca-Corsica , in close collaboration with local authorities and the Interdepartmental Agreement for Mosquito Control (EID Méditerranée), are fully mobilized to limit the risks of indigenous transmission in the region.
54 treatments carried out in Paca around indigenous cases
With the support of local authorities, these teams conduct field investigations, including door-to-door visits in affected neighborhoods. These visits help identify potential secondary cases, raise awareness among residents, and provide recommendations for avoiding mosquito bites and preventing their spread.
At the same time, the EID Méditerranée systematically intervenes for mosquito control operations around reported cases. These treatments, carried out in a targeted and supervised manner, aim to reduce the density of the Aedes albopictus mosquito ( tiger mosquito ), the vector of the viruses responsible for these diseases. To date, 54 treatments have been carried out in Paca around indigenous cases.
This coordinated response between public health actors, local authorities and mosquito control operators illustrates the collective commitment to prevent local transmission of arboviruses in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
Three indigenous cases of West Nile virus infection have been reported by the National Reference Center for Arboviruses: two in Hyères and one in Gardanne in Bouches-du-Rhône. This virus is transmitted by the Culex mosquito, different from the one linked to the transmission of dengue and chikungunya.
