Elon Musk lost a lot (but not everything) by associating himself with the Trumpist power

Elon Musk's 100 days at Donald Trump's White House were 100 days of demonetization. Financially, first and foremost, his wealth having melted away with Trumpism: the businessman's fortune, which had reached the extravagant record of $486 billion (€427 billion) in December 2024, according to Bloomberg estimates, has fallen back to around $335 billion, even though post-election gains persist (73 billion).

Then industrial, with the fall of Tesla, its car brand, whose sales fell by 20% in the first quarter, while its profits were divided by three, due to competition and consumer disaffection for a manufacturer led by a libertarian who has drifted to the borders of the extreme right. "The damage caused to the brand is profound," laments the star analyst of Wedbush Securities, Dan Ives.

Moral too, with a Nazi salute that the person concerned claims wasn't one. But this attitude is unacceptable for an advisor to the President of the United States. At the same time, Elon Musk has damaged his aura of performance genius: at the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he may have succeeded in making people believe that the budget of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was the largest federal expenditure before the elimination of most of its programs, but he has constantly reduced his ambitions. The promised budget streamlining fell from $2 trillion to $1 trillion, ending up with some $160 billion in savings claimed on the DOGE website.
