Walk fast to get your heart beating in time

Walking continues to demonstrate its benefits. In addition to being an environmentally friendly mode of transportation, it has numerous effects on physical and mental health. And the faster the pace, the greater the benefits: improved endurance, increased aerobic capacity, and a positive effect on cardiometabolic markers.
Numerous studies have already shown that walking reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, in particular by regulating cholesterol and blood sugar levels, but also by acting on blood pressure, improving blood circulation, etc.
A study published in April in the journal Heart (BMJ journals) showed that brisk walking can prevent cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation. This is the most common heart rhythm disorder (around 750,000 people affected in France). Its incidence has doubled over the past thirty years, particularly due to the aging of the population. It is characterized by rapid and irregular contractions of the atria (upper chambers of the heart). This pathology increases the risk of stroke, hence the importance of properly managing and preventing it.
