The Campiello Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 to Laura Pariani

The Fondazione Il Campiello Award, a special mention for Lifetime Achievement for 2025, goes to writer and playwright Laura Pariani. The announcement was made this evening by the Foundation itself at the Civita Association in Piazza Venezia in Rome, during a special event dedicated to the Campiello Award and the presentation of the finalist authors, present together for the first time: Marco Belpoliti with “Nord Nord” (Giulio Einaudi Editore), Wanda Marasco with “Di spalle a questo mondo” (Neri Pozza), Monica Pareschi with “Inverness” (Polidoro), Alberto Prunetti with “Troncamacchioni” (Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore) and Fabio Stassi with “Bebelplatz” (Sellerio Editore).
The event, hosted by Giancarlo Leone, journalist and television manager, was attended by: Raffaele Boscaini, President of the Il Campiello Foundation and Confindustria Veneto, Mariacristina Gribaudi, President of the Management Committee of the Prize, Giorgio Zanchini, President of the Jury of Literary Men, Giuseppe Biazzo, President of Unindustria Lazio and Gianni Letta, President of the Civita Association. On this occasion, the President of the Il Campiello Foundation Raffaele Boscaini announced the Il Campiello Foundation Prize to the writer Laura Pariani, present at the evening. The Prize will be awarded during the final of the 63rd edition of the Campiello Prize, scheduled for Saturday 13 September at the “Gran Teatro La Fenice” in Venice.
The following is the motivation: "Laura Pariani, a native of Busto Arsizio and raised in Magnago, has brought together - in her long career not only as a writer, but also as a visual artist and author for cinema and theater - various and multifaceted ways of expression, channeling them towards the center of her inspiration, which is of a purely literary nature. In her writing, not attributable to a single register or a dominant tone, because regenerated and brought back into play in almost each of her narrative efforts, Pariani has put into dialogue the vertices of poetry - starting from the great authors of the canon who have always inspired her, Dante first and foremost - and the most obscure and marginal cultural experiences, such as those of emigrants, commoners, vagabonds, irregulars. Irregular and often brilliant is the result of her creation, in which fairy-tale tones and recoveries from ancient language, dialectal orality and modern colloquiality, bare word and music, in the form of popular song and ethnographic rarity. In the top five at the Campiello already in 1998 with The Perfection of Elastic Bands (and of Cinema), then again in 2003 with Gertrudina's Egg, in 2010 with Milan is a Dark Forest and in 2019 with The Game of Santa Goose, Pariani is appreciated for the continuity and endurance of his production, which make him an exemplary figure of today's Italian literary panorama". On September 9, Pariani's new novel entitled "Primamà", published by La nave di Teseo, will be available in bookstores.
