Pizza is no longer a pleasure for all budgets, crazy prices throughout Italy. And the most expensive city is not Milan

Once a symbol of conviviality, speed and simplicity, pizza was also one of the few tasty meals truly accessible to all. But today things are changing. The most beloved dish by adults and children alike has become increasingly expensive, and not only because of the arrival of “gourmet” pizzas on the tables.
According to a survey conducted by the Center for Training and Research on Consumption (Crc) and reported by Agi, over the last six years the average cost of a meal in a pizzeria has increased by 18.3% , reaching 12.14 euros per person today. The analysis took into consideration a typical meal consisting of a pizza, a drink and the costs of cover charge and service, if applicable.
From the Istat data, processed by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit), surprises also emerge on the geography of price increases: the most expensive city to eat a pizza is Reggio Emilia , where an average of 17.58 euros is spent. Siena follows, with 17.24 euros, and Macerata, with an average of 16.25 euros. In total, out of 59 provinces analyzed, 7 exceed the 14 euros average expense for a meal in a pizzeria.
