Ricciardi: Mandatory vaccination should not be abolished
"When politics enters into technical and scientific decisions create serious problems. The introduction of the obligation was decided in 2017, at the time when which Italy had become an international pariah. We were the second country in the EU for the increase in infections, there were countries that threatened to raise the alarm international asking not to come to Italy. It is forgotten that vaccination coverage has only increased thanks to to the law, making many children safe." He said Walter Ricciardi, former president of the Higher Institute of Healthcare, in an interview with La Stampa. "Unfortunately, vaccines are not discussed as a topic technical and this confuses citizens, leads them to take the distances and therefore put the population in danger, in especially the weakest. The same thing is happening in the US. where politics dictates the rules and serious problems are being created problems from a health point of view," he added. For Ricciardi "if the obligation did not exist we would return to the figures prior to 2017 with thousands of cases per year and deaths." On the minister's elimination of the vaccine committee of Health Orazio Schillaci, Ricciardi states: "The Nitag is a technical commission. It must be composed only of people competent people who support the minister in decisions that are complex. It is necessary that the selection of components respects these criteria, therefore the minister did well to rush to the repairs because those two people were not up to the task either terms of competence or professionalism". And as regards the functioning of the Ministry of Health "I think that what is not working in the ministry is state to make some decisions on health policy such as not having voted for the pandemic plan or having abstained together with Russia and Iran in May when the WHO adopted a new agreement on pandemics that contains legally binding provisions binding measures that address shortfalls in global capacity to address health emergencies that emerged during the pandemic Covid. These are non-technical decisions that are isolating Italy."
