The heat is easing today: 14 cities will be on red alert for mid-August.

The heat seems to be loosening its grip on Italy, albeit slightly. According to new forecasts published today by the Ministry of Health, 14 cities will be under the red flag for mid-August , one fewer than yesterday. This figure will drop to 11 on Saturday, August 16th.
On the 15th, the highest alert level is expected in Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Frosinone, Genoa, Latina, Milan, Perugia, Rome, Turin, Trieste, Venice, and Verona. Rieti will be under a yellow alert for mid-August, as will Viterbo, Civitavecchia, Campobasso, and Ancona (five cities in total). The situation will also improve in Naples and Palermo for mid-August, which will receive a green alert, along with Bari, Cagliari, Catania, Messina, Pescara, and Reggio Calabria, for a total of eight cities at zero alert level.
Campobasso has risen in risk for August 16th, with an orange warning (after the previous two days with a yellow warning). Frosinone, Latina, and Perugia, however, are improving, leaving the red warning and moving to yellow. This brings the maximum alert level for heatwave health risks to 11 cities (Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Rome, Turin, Trieste, Venice, and Verona). Saturday's situation is completed by six yellow warnings (Ancona, Rieti, Viterbo, as well as Frosinone, Latina, and Perugia) and nine green warnings (Bari, Cagliari, Catania, Civitavecchia, Messina, Naples, Palermo, Pescara, and Reggio Calabria).

Heat will also be intense in Central Italy, with thunderstorms in the mountains. Sunny weather in the South, but with frequent thunderstorms in the afternoon.
On Saturday the 16th, however, the North will be sunny and hot, with thunderstorms more common in the Alps. Central Italy will also be equally hot, with sunny spells and thunderstorms in the mountains. In the South, thunderstorms will be widespread in Sicily, the Apennines, and nearby areas.
