Toll increase: embarrassment in the majority, Lega withdraws signature from the amendment

Contrasts emerge in the majority on the amendment to the infrastructure decree that provides for the increase of highway tolls starting August 1st. From Fratelli d'Italia "disappointment" has filtered out on the rule, presented by the rapporteurs despite having given the green light. And, as announced in a note from the League, the deputy prime minister and minister Matteo Salvini is asking to withdraw the amendment, signed by the rapporteurs of all the majority forces, which intends to adjust the value of the surcharge on highway tolls. A request promptly accepted by the Carroccio, which withdrew its signature.

Meanwhile, the opposition is united against the increase in highway tolls scheduled for August 1st. "Today the government is increasing tolls by imposing a new tax on those who go on vacation in August," Elly Schlein wrote on social media. "We are opposing it in Parliament. Giorgia Meloni has changed her mind on this too. Consistency, this unknown." In her post, the secretary of the Democratic Party re-proposes an old card of the Prime Minister in which she said "Fratelli d'Italia says NO to the indiscriminate increase in tolls. ENOUGH unloading the burden of favors towards highway concessions onto citizens! Are you with us?"

The president of the 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte , also accuses the government, writing on Facebook: "Another coup by the Meloni-Salvini-Tajani majority: they proposed an increase in highway tolls starting August 1, so we can add a little more cost of living for the holidays (for those who can afford them). However, they are cutting taxes: to the billionaire web giants of the United States and to the banks that have collected extra profits. We are immediately fighting in Parliament to stop this further increase. Enough".

Criticism then comes from Angelo Bonelli , deputy of Avs and co-spokesperson of Europa Verde: "While millions of Italians are preparing for their summer holidays, the Meloni government has thought it best to give them a nice gift: the increase in motorway tolls - he comments -. An amendment to the Infrastructure decree in fact provides for general increases starting from the first of August, affecting not only trucks and lorries, but also cars, motorbikes and campers. Is this the social right of Giorgia Meloni? A right that raises costs for families who travel and for those who work on the road".
